Gary Williams

I am a graduate student at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. My primary interests are at the intersection between phenomenology and cognitive science, with a special interest in the philosophy of perception, consciousness, general theories of intentionality, animal minds, and phenomenological psychology. I utilize an ecological approach to understanding the mind. Moreover, by emphasizing the social and linguistic dimensions of human cognition and consciousness, I hope to update phenomenological concepts in light of recent research in the 4EA paradigm (embodied, embedded, enacted, extended, affective). I am also interested in reviving Julian Jaynes’ neglected theory of bicamerality and consciousness by integrating it with Heideggerian-Gibsonian insights along with modern research in neuropsychology, archaeology, and anthropology.
